THE MOOMINS

The Moomins are the central characters in a series of
books and comic strips by Swedish speaking Finn
Tove Jansson, a painter, illustrator and writer.
The Moomins are a family of white and roundish
fantastical characters, with large snouts.
After the first Moomin story published in 1945, Tove
Jansson went on to write another eight books, four
picture books and numerous comic strip stories about
theMoomins. The Moomins have inspired numerous
television series, films and theme parks.

The carefree Moomin family lives in a blue cylindrical
house in Moominvalley, though in the past their
temporary residences have included a lighthouse and
a theatre. The Moominhouse originally had only two
stories, but the numerous visitors soon made it feel
cramped. The family extended the house which now has
three floors, a verandah and a cellar.
The Moomins have many adventures with their various
friends.
The main family consists of Moominpappa,
Moominmamma and Moomintroll. Other characters such
as Sniff, Snorkmaiden, Snufkin and Little My have over
time become part of the family.
